Have You Considered a Friday Wedding? 10 Reasons a Friday Could Be the Perfect Wedding Day

When most couples start planning their wedding, they automatically picture a Saturday.

Saturday is the traditional wedding day. It’s what we’re used to, what our friends have done, and what we’ve probably imagined since we were little.

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with a Saturday wedding!

But there’s another option that couples sometimes overlook: Friday.

A Friday wedding might not be the first date you consider when you start looking at venues and vendors, but there are actually some pretty great benefits to choosing Friday over Saturday. For some couples, it can mean more flexibility, more availability, and even an entire weekend to celebrate with the people they love.

So, before you automatically check every Friday off your list, here are a few things worth considering.

1. You May Have More Choices When It Comes to Your Wedding Date

Popular Saturday wedding dates can disappear quickly, especially during the most popular months of the year.

If you have your heart set on a particular venue, a specific month, or a meaningful date, being open to Friday can give you additional options.

Maybe your dream venue is booked every Saturday in October—but they have the Friday you’ve been hoping for.

Suddenly, Friday doesn’t seem so bad!

2. Your Dream Vendors May Be More Available

This is one I think couples sometimes overlook.

Your favorite photographer, videographer, DJ, florist, hair and makeup artist or other wedding professional may already be booked for many Saturdays during wedding season.

Friday weddings can sometimes give you access to vendors who aren’t available on your preferred Saturday.

And if there are a few vendors you absolutely love, having a little flexibility with your wedding day could make a difference.

After all, you’ve probably spent a lot of time looking at their work, reading reviews and imagining them being part of your day. Why not give yourself the best chance of having the team you really want?

3. You May Be Able to Stretch Your Wedding Budget

Another potential benefit of a Friday wedding is cost.

Many wedding venues and vendors offer different pricing for Friday events, although every business is different and it’s always important to compare the actual numbers.

Even a few savings here and there can add up.

Maybe the money you save on the venue allows you to add the upgraded floral package you’ve been dreaming about. Maybe it gives you room in the budget for a longer photography package, a live musician, a late-night snack or those extra details you weren’t sure you could fit in.

A different wedding day could give you a little more flexibility with where your money goes.

4. Your Wedding Can Become an Entire Weekend Celebration

This might be my favorite reason to consider Friday.

Instead of your wedding being the main event of the weekend, it can become the beginning of the weekend.

Think about it:

Thursday: Rehearsal dinner with your closest family and wedding party.

Friday: Wedding day!

Saturday: Brunch with family, golf with the guys, a girls’ day, exploring the area, shopping, relaxing by the pool or simply spending more time with the people who traveled to celebrate with you.

Sunday: One last breakfast together before everyone heads home.

Your wedding becomes more than one day. It becomes an entire weekend filled with memories.

5. Saturday Morning Becomes Yours

Here’s a benefit you might not think about until after the wedding.

If you have a Friday wedding, you wake up Saturday morning already married.

You can sleep in.

You can order room service.

You can grab brunch.

You can open gifts.

You can look through the photos your friends and family took the night before.

You can sit around in your pajamas with your new spouse and realize, “We actually did it!”

Or you can head straight to the airport and start your honeymoon.

There are worse ways to spend a Saturday morning!

6. It Can Be a Great Option for a Destination Wedding

If you’re having a destination wedding or have a large number of guests traveling from out of town, a Friday wedding can work especially well.

Your guests are already making a trip to celebrate with you, so why not turn it into a little getaway?

A Friday wedding gives everyone Saturday to spend more time together without having to rush home the morning after the wedding.

You could plan a casual brunch, organize an activity or simply let everyone explore the area on their own.

And let’s be honest—after putting so much effort into getting everyone together in one place, having another day to enjoy them isn’t a bad thing.

7. Your Rehearsal Dinner Becomes the Start of the Celebration

With a Saturday wedding, the rehearsal dinner is usually Friday night.

With a Friday wedding, your rehearsal dinner happens Thursday.

That means your wedding party and immediate family can gather the night before, enjoy dinner together and officially kick off the wedding weekend.

Then when Friday arrives, everyone is already together and ready to celebrate.

It can create a really nice sense of anticipation as the entire weekend begins.

8. Friday Guests Are READY TO PARTY!

Okay, let’s talk about one of my favorite things about Friday weddings.

Your guests are ready to have some FUN.

They’ve made it through the workweek. They’ve made it to Friday. They’re dressed up, they’ve got a drink in their hand, and now they’re at a WEDDING!

There is something about that Friday-night feeling that says, “The weekend starts NOW!”

And if having a packed dance floor is important to you, this is something to consider.

Your guests aren’t thinking about getting up early for work the next morning. They’re not watching the clock because they have somewhere they need to be. They came to celebrate—and they are ready to get on that dance floor!

A Friday wedding can feel like the ultimate end-of-the-workweek celebration. Everyone gets to let loose, celebrate your marriage, dance with their friends and family, and have a great time.

And isn’t that what you want?

When couples talk about their wedding day, one of the things I hear all the time is, “We just want everyone to have a really good time.”

Friday night has a pretty great way of setting the stage for exactly that.

9. You Can Spend Saturday Doing Something Fun With Your Guests

If many of your guests are traveling for your wedding, Saturday gives you an opportunity to plan something completely different.

Maybe it’s a casual brunch.

Maybe it’s a brewery tour.

Maybe it’s a trip to the lake.

Maybe it’s a golf outing.

Maybe it’s simply pizza and drinks at your favorite local spot.

Or maybe you don’t plan anything at all.

Sometimes the best part of having everyone together is simply sitting around a table and talking without a wedding timeline hanging over your head.

10. Friday Can Give Your Wedding a Different Feel

There’s something fun about a Friday wedding.

Everyone has made it through the workweek, they’ve gotten dressed up, they’ve arrived ready to celebrate—and now the weekend officially begins.

There’s an energy that comes with knowing tomorrow is Saturday.

And instead of guests leaving at the end of the night thinking, “I have to get up for work tomorrow,” they can head back to their hotel knowing they have another full day ahead.

It can make the entire celebration feel a little more relaxed—and maybe just a little more FUN.

And a BONUS #11. You Get to Make the Wedding Day Work for YOU

At the end of the day, there is no rule that says your wedding has to be on Saturday.

There are traditions worth keeping, traditions worth changing and traditions that simply don’t matter to you.

Your wedding day should reflect the two of you.

If Saturday is your dream day, go for it!

But if Friday opens up your dream venue, makes your favorite vendors available, gives you more flexibility with your budget or allows you to turn your wedding into an entire weekend celebration, it might be worth considering.

And maybe that’s the biggest benefit of all.

You have options.

So… Is a Friday Wedding Right for You?

I don’t think there’s a universal “best” day of the week to get married.

I’ve seen beautiful Saturday weddings, beautiful Friday weddings, beautiful Sunday weddings—and everything in between.

What matters most is that the day feels like you.

If you’re just beginning to plan your wedding, don’t automatically eliminate Friday from your list simply because Saturday is traditional.

Take a look at the numbers.

Check your venue availability.

Ask your favorite vendors about their Friday options.

Think about where your guests are traveling from.

And imagine what you could do with an entire weekend together instead of just one wedding day.

Because when you really think about it, the magic isn’t in the day of the week.

It’s in the people standing beside you, the people sitting in the seats, the stories being told, the happy tears, the hugs, the laughter, the packed dance floor, and the photographs you’ll have to remember it all.

Saturday may be traditional. But Friday might just be worth considering.
